School entrance examination
Starting school marks the beginning of a new and important phase in a child’s life.
As part of the pre-school health examination, the public health department assesses health factors that may be significant for learning in school and identifies areas where additional support may be needed, if necessary.
What is being studied?
The public health department checks hearing and vision, measures height and weight, and conducts a developmental screening. If necessary, a medical examination follows. The goal is to identify early on any need for support—not to evaluate the child.
Where will the examination take place?
In collaboration with participating daycare centers (Kitas), the Public Health Department offers screenings in the familiar setting of the daycare center. In addition, screenings are conducted at the Public Health Department.
When will the examination take place?
Invitations are sent out in stages. Children who turn six by September 30 are required to start school in August of that same year. The screenings begin about a year before that.
Important to know:
The examination is not a test. No preparation is necessary. Parents or guardians will receive the results by mail. If you have any questions, please contact the public health department.
