For the Planning and Organization of the HSU In Bochum, the Bochum City School District is responsible for the city's schools. HSU classes are held primarily in the afternoon.
The Teachers, who teach the HSU, are employees of the state of North Rhine-Westphalia. They are native speakers. They are typically assigned to several schools.

The HSU teacher certifies attendance and assigns a grade starting in 3rd grade. The child’s school enters this grade in the “Remarks” section of the Report Card. At the end of lower secondary school (10th grade), students take a Language Test in their native language ... A strong performance on the language exam can make up for a poor performance in a foreign language and thus lead to graduation.

Binding registration for the upcoming school year is done through the Form "Registration for Native Language Instruction". This must be turned in to the respective HSU teacher during HSU class hours.

Registration requires regular attendance. Withdrawal is only possible at the end of the school year for the coming school year.
