Supervision of Grundschulen

Professional supervision serves to ensure quality in the education system. In Grundschulen, this responsibility lies with the relevant school district office, where school supervisors exercise administrative and professional oversight and serve as points of contact for internal school matters. It includes educational guidance, support for teachers, and monitoring compliance with educational standards.

Objectives of Technical Supervision

  • Ensuring high-quality instruction

  • Promoting school and instructional development

  • Support for the implementation of curricula and educational programs

  • Advice on educational and organizational matters

  • Strengthening child-centered, inclusive, and sustainable educational programs

How the Technical Supervisory Authority Operates

Professional supervision is primarily about providing guidance and advice, not traditional oversight. School supervisors visit schools, hold discussions with school administrators and teachers, and offer professional development opportunities. They provide ideas for improving instruction and support the implementation of new approaches, such as in the areas of digitalization, inclusion, or language support.

Support for teachers and school administrators

Teachers receive support with lesson planning, assessment, and parent communication. School administrators receive guidance on school organization, personnel management, and resolving conflicts among staff. The subject supervisor also provides support for individual learning support—e.g., reading and spelling difficulties, math disorders, and special talents—as well as for procedures under the AO-SF (learning, language, emotional, and social development).

Collaboration with other partners

The educational supervisory authority works closely with school districts, the district government, and professional development centers. This creates a network that supports schools in their day-to-day operations.

Focus on child-centered learning

The focus is on the child. Educational supervisors ensure that instruction is age-appropriate, understandable, and supportive—regardless of background, language, or individual circumstances.
