Regional Education Center of the Berufskollegs Bochum (RBZB)

Five Berufskollegs. One shared mission. Bright prospects for Bochum.

The five municipal Berufskollegs in Bochum have been working together for many years to provide young people with high-quality vocational training. This collaboration was strengthened as part of the pilot program “Regional Vocational School Education Centers (RBZB)” and played a key role in developing shared structures and processes. With the transition to a permanent program, the successful partnership with the City of Bochum has now been elevated to a new level: The former pilot program has evolved into a permanent, forward-looking network that sustainably strengthens and further develops vocational education in the city.

Together Toward the Future

About one-third of all students in Bochum attend a municipal Berufskolleg—a clear indication of the great importance of this type of school for the Bochum educational region. By permanently establishing the RBZB, this strong foundation will be further expanded and secured for the long term.

At the heart of this collaboration is the creation of a community of responsibility in which Berufskollegs work together with the City of Bochum, the Employment Agency, the chambers of commerce, the economic development agency, and other regional partners to further develop vocational education and ensure a supply of skilled workers. The goal is to provide young people in the region with tailored career guidance and high-quality educational opportunities—tailored to the needs of the regional labor market.

What Makes the RBZB Unique

  1. Coordinated and modern Educational Pathways

Within the RBZB network, programs are developed collaboratively and regularly refined—always with a focus on the needs of a changing job market.

  2. Sustainable Development During Normal Operations

The RBZB ensures that successful projects and structures are not only maintained but also continuously expanded and adapted to new challenges—for example, in the context of labor shortages or societal changes.

  3. Synergies Within the Network

Joint counseling approaches, coordinated professional development programs, and close cooperation with partner institutions ensure that students receive even more targeted support. Already, approximately 10,000 young people in about 500 classes are benefiting from this successful collaboration.
