School development planning

Pursuant to Section 80 of the North Rhine-Westphalia School Act, the City of Bochum is required to plan the development of its schools with a forward-looking approach. The goal of this school development planning is to ensure that sufficient school enrollment capacity remains available in the future across the various types of schools and at different locations.
The results are documented in school development plans. These cover Grundschulen, Förderschulen, secondary schools, and Berufskollegs, including the Weiterbildungskolleg.
In its planning, the city takes into account both the current situation and projected trends for the coming years. This includes, among other things, the number of students, the size of the schools, the available school buildings and locations, and which types of schools parents prefer. Based on this, an assessment is made of how student enrollment is expected to change and whether additional classrooms or other adjustments will be necessary in the future.
School development planning thus provides an important foundation for ensuring that children, youth, and adults in Bochum have access to educational opportunities that meet their needs and are located close to home.

City of Bochum School Construction Guidelines
The city of Bochum has conducted a study to determine what standards need to be established for schools in order to ensure an adequate supply of classroom space that meets current needs. The study takes into account requirements regarding the size, number, and educational concepts of classrooms, as well as the objectives of the Bochum Strategie.
Expertise "Talent Incubator in the Ruhr Region" identifies the following key areas for “excellent school education”:
Promoting a diverse, distinctive, and high-quality school education
Increased support for high levels of inclusion in classrooms and learning groups
Expanding and promoting comprehensive, flexible, and reliable after-school care for schoolchildren
Ensuring adequate infrastructure and educational resources
Based on these points, the School Construction Guidelines developed to serve as a guideline for new school construction and the expansion of existing schools in Bochum.
